ImageJ and its plugin-rich distribution Fiji are free, open-source image analysis programs for Windows, macOS and Linux. Dental researchers use them to calibrate and measure radiographs, histology slides and photographs, and to analyse bone with BoneJ.
Simodont Dental Trainer
Simodont is a commercial haptic virtual-reality dental trainer from Nissin Dental Products, used by dental schools for pre-clinical training. Its software runs only on Simodont hardware; there is no download, free version or ‘academic edition’. Current release: V4.22.
Primal Pictures (Anatomy.tv)
Primal Pictures delivers 3D anatomy through the Anatomy.tv web platform, with dentistry modules on head and neck anatomy, tooth morphology, TMJ, cranial nerves and radiology, plus Dentistry VR. It is shareware (conditionally free): licensed to institutions, which can request a free demo or trial.
Anatomage Table
The Anatomage Table is a commercial, life-size touchscreen virtual dissection system with digitised real human cadavers. The software ships with Anatomage hardware: there is no free demo, trial or download. The current version is Table 12.
Vatech Ez3D Plus
Ez3D Plus is Vatech’s legacy Windows program for viewing and planning on CBCT scans, made by Ewoosoft. It is no longer supported and new licences are not issued; its successor Ez3D-i exports cases with a free Simple Viewer, and Clever One is Vatech’s newest platform.
