Apteryx XrayVision
Apteryx XrayVision is Planet DDS’s device-agnostic dental X-ray capture and storage software for Windows. It is commercial, with no free viewer. Classic XrayVision 4 is discontinued (support ended 2022); the enterprise XrayVision DCV continues, and XVWeb is the cloud successor.
Elexis
Elexis is free, open-source (Eclipse Public License) practice software for Swiss medical practices, with patient records, lab findings and Swiss billing. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. There is no dental fork or dental module.
GNUmed
GNUmed is a free, open-source (GPL) electronic medical record for ambulatory care, with a PostgreSQL server and a desktop client for Linux, Windows and macOS. It has no dental module or dental forms package, but offers templates, a document archive and image annotation.
OSCAR EMR
OSCAR EMR is a free, open-source (GPL v2) web-based medical record from McMaster University for Canadian primary care. OSCAR Pro is a separate commercial product by WELLSTAR (WELL Health). Neither has dental templates or tooth charting.
LibreHealth EHR
Free, open-source (MPL 2.0) web-based EHR and practice-management system forked from OpenEMR. There is no dental edition or odontogram, and the project is dormant: the last release, 2.0.0, dates from 2017.
NOSH ChartingSystem
NOSH ChartingSystem is a free, open-source (AGPL) web-based EHR created by family physician Michael Chen. NOSH 3 is a FHIR-native Progressive Web App run in Docker. There is no dental plugin, and the code has not been updated since March 2025.
