DTX Studio Clinic is dental imaging software from Nobel Biocare and DEXIS (both Envista brands) that puts intraoral X-rays, panoramic and cephalometric images, CBCT volumes, intraoral scans and photos into one patient record. It is aimed at general dentists, implant and specialist practices, and the IT staff who support them.
If you are looking for a DTX Studio Clinic download, note that it is shareware (conditionally free): a free Starter licence covers viewing and referral collaboration, while image acquisition in 3D, full diagnostics and implant planning need a paid licence. Installers are distributed through the vendor’s DTX Studio Go portal, not as an anonymous public file.

| Best for | Practices that want 2D, CBCT, scans and photos in one workspace, and specialists who receive referral cases |
What it does
- Imports 2D images, 2D and 3D DICOM files and optical scans in PLY or STL format, and captures directly from supported intraoral sensors, cameras and TWAIN devices.
- MagicSort (MagicAssist) recognises tooth numbers on intraoral radiographs and places the images in the mount automatically.
- Focus area detection marks suspected dental findings on intraoral X-rays for the clinician to review. DEXIS’s v4.7 announcement describes up to 15 types of findings, including restorations such as crowns, bridges and root canal fillings.
- SmartLayout shows up to 12 viewers on one screen; SmartFocus jumps tooth by tooth across X-rays, CBCT and photos.
- SmartFusion merges an intraoral scan with the CBCT volume, and SmartSetup proposes a virtual tooth setup for prosthetically driven implant planning.
- Implant planning on CBCT data: automatic or manual implant placement, anchor pins, parallelising, and a surgical template exported as an STL file for local production or ordered as NobelGuide.
- CBCT tools include nerve canal tracing, a TMJ view, 3D-generated cephalograms and AirSpace airway measurement.
- Findings can be bookmarked into a report, and cases shared online through GoShare.
How dental teams use it
Open a referral case with the free Starter licence
- Create a DTX Studio Go account and install the software with a Starter licence.
- Import the patient record or DICOM set you received from the referring practice.
- Review the 2D images and the 3D volume in the viewers, add measurements, and reply through GoShare.
Sort and review a full-mouth series
- Capture or import the intraoral radiographs.
- Let MagicSort place them in the mount, then check every tooth number and orientation marker yourself.
- Switch on focus area detection, go through each marked area, and accept, edit or reject it as a diagnostic finding.
The instructions for use are clear that the clinician must not rely on the detection alone and has to review the whole dataset. Automatic sorting and detection are intended for adult dentition without gemination, crowding or macrodontia.
Plan an implant and export a guide
- Load the CBCT scan and the intraoral scan, and align them with SmartFusion.
- Annotate the mandibular nerve, then place the implant manually or let the software calculate an initial position.
- Verify the position against the nerve and neighbouring teeth, create the surgical template and export it as STL for your printer or lab.
Install and first run
- Getting the installer: installers, the installation guide and licence management are on DTX Studio Go, so you need an account first. Users and passwords are administered there too.
- Windows: the version 4.5 instructions for use list Windows 11 or 10, 64-bit, Pro and Enterprise editions. Check the current requirements for 4.8 before a roll-out.
- macOS: the same document lists macOS Ventura, Sonoma and Sequoia on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Install only on a non-case-sensitive APFS or HFS+ drive.
- Hardware: a 2.8 GHz dual or quad-core CPU, 4 GB RAM for 2D work and 8 GB or more for 3D, a graphics card with OpenGL 3.3 (2 GB VRAM or more for 3D), 10 GB of free disk space and a Full HD display.
- Internet: the software should stay online. If it cannot, it must connect at least once every 14 days or access may be suspended until the connection is restored.
- Multi-room setups: connect each workstation to DTX Studio Core in Settings, and upgrade Core before the Clinic clients.
Limitations
- It is not free software. The Starter licence is for viewing and collaboration; 3D acquisition, full analysis and planning depend on the paid licence type.
- There is no anonymous installer download: everything goes through a DTX Studio Go account and licence activation.
- Several integrations are Windows only, including DTX Studio Core, DEXIS IS ScanFlow, MEDIT Link and DTX Studio Lab.
- Direct capture works with supported devices (mainly DEXIS, Gendex and KaVo hardware, plus TWAIN).
- AI results are an aid, not a diagnosis, and some cloud services are not cleared or sold in every market.

FAQ
Where is the DTX Studio Clinic download?
Installers are provided through the DTX Studio Go portal after you sign in. The official website also offers a demo with a product specialist.
Is DTX Studio Clinic free?
Partly. The Starter (referral) licence for viewing patient records is free of charge; acquisition in 3D, full diagnostics and planning require a paid licence.
What is DTX Studio Clinic Starter?
It is the entry licence for a single user on one computer. It lets you view 2D and 3D images and surgical plans exported from DTX Studio Clinic and try the AI features, with limited access to everything else.
What is the difference between Starter and Pro?
Per the instructions for use, Pro and Pro IOS include 2D and 3D features and 2D and 3D image acquisition. Select and Starter offer 2D and selected 3D viewing features with 2D acquisition only.
What are the DTX Studio Clinic system requirements?
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) or a recent macOS, a 2.8 GHz multi-core CPU, at least 4 GB RAM (8 GB or more for 3D), OpenGL 3.3 graphics and 10 GB of disk space, plus a broadband connection.
DTX Studio Core vs Clinic: what is the difference?
Clinic is the workstation program you view and plan in. Core is the server that stores patient images centrally and connects networked devices, so every room sees the same data.
How much does DTX Studio Clinic cost?
We do not list prices. The vendor sells several licence types and add-on services, so ask DEXIS or Nobel Biocare for a quote.
