VixWin Platinum is the Windows imaging program that captures, enhances and files dental X-rays from Gendex sensors, phosphor plate scanners and panoramic units, and it is still found in many practices that bought Gendex equipment. VixWin is not a Dentsply Sirona product. What it does
- Captures intraoral and extraoral X-rays from Gendex devices and places them automatically into mounts: images are saved, oriented and mounted, and the program advances to the next position in the series.
- Quick Mount Selector and auto-rotation speed up full-mouth series and bitewings.
- Image enhancement: the Optimizer tool and Spine Compensation for panoramic images, a Spotlight feature that maximises contrast in a chosen area, region-of-interest magnification, sharpening, edge enhancement, iso-density and colourisation.
- Two storage modes: standalone on a local or network drive, or bridge mode, where the practice management program drives patient selection.

How dental teams use it
Take a full-mouth series
- Open the patient from the practice management bridge or from VixWin itself.
- Choose the mount with the Quick Mount Selector.
- Expose each image; VixWin saves, rotates and places it, then moves to the next slot.
- Review the series and retake any image before the patient leaves.
Improve a hard-to-read radiograph
- Open the image and apply the Optimizer.
- Use Spotlight or region-of-interest zoom on the area in question, for example an apex or a contact.
- Try sharpening or iso-density for subtle density changes, then compare with the original before charting.
Prepare a move to newer software
- List every workstation, sensor and scanner that uses VixWin and note the Windows version on each.
- Confirm with DEXIS or your dealer which current program supports your devices.
- Plan the database conversion with your IT provider and keep a verified backup of the VixWin image folders.
Install and first run
- Installation media and licences come through DEXIS and authorised dealers, together with the sensor or scanner drivers. The DEXIS download centre lists a VixWin Platinum document, but no public installer.
- Gendex GXS-700 sensors, for example, need the GxPicture acquisition software together with VixWin Platinum 2.0 or later.
- Choose standalone or bridge mode during setup, and point all workstations to the same image folder on the server.
