EHRbase
EHRbase is a free, open-source (Apache 2.0) openEHR server: a Java and PostgreSQL back end with the openEHR REST API and AQL queries for building clinical apps. It has no user interface and no dental templates; dental data models must be built as openEHR templates.
Mango
Mango is a free medical research image viewer from the Research Imaging Institute, UT Health San Antonio, for Windows, macOS and Linux (plus browser and iPad versions). It opens DICOM and NIfTI volumes, with ROI statistics and surface rendering. It is licensed for non-commercial research only, not for clinical use.
DEXIS Imaging Suite
DEXIS Imaging Suite is DEXIS’s Windows software for capturing and managing 2D dental X-rays and clinical photos, with automatic mounting, practice management bridges and the optional DEXassist AI. The suite is commercial; DEXIS has offered a free DEXview viewer for .dex images.
Dentsply Sirona Sidexis 4
Sidexis 4 is Dentsply Sirona’s Windows software for capturing, viewing and exporting 2D and 3D dental X-rays from Orthophos, Axeos and Xios/Schick devices. The full program needs a licence; exported patient discs include a free, read-only Sidexis 4 Viewer.
Gendex VixWin Platinum
VixWin Platinum is Gendex’s Windows software for capturing, enhancing and mounting dental X-rays from Gendex sensors, scanners and pans. It is commercial and licensed with the hardware, with no free viewer; DEXIS has owned it since 2022.
Carestream Dental CS Imaging 8
CS Imaging 8 is Carestream Dental’s Windows hub for 2D X-rays, CBCT volumes, photos and STL data from Carestream devices. It is licensed software; exported CDs and USB keys include the free CS 3D Imaging Lite viewer, and Premium 3D features can be tried free.
