Ez3D Plus is Vatech’s older Windows program for viewing and planning on CBCT scans from Vatech X-ray units, developed by Vatech’s software company Ewoosoft. Many dentists still meet it today as the viewer on a CD or USB stick sent by a Vatech practice. It is legacy, commercial software: Vatech no longer supports it or issues new licence keys, and its successor Ez3D-i (and now the Clever One platform) has taken over. What it does
- Ez3D Plus opens CBCT data from Vatech units for cross-sectional review, including manual or automatic panoramic curve creation with the PANO curve button.
- It uses an implant database (updated separately) for implant placement on the scan, and it can be launched from Vatech’s 2D software EzDent-i.
- It can burn DICOM or CT data to CD/DVD and export a DICOM viewer package to a flash drive or FTP for colleagues.
- Its successor Ez3D-i adds real volume rendering, smart clipping, one-click sectioning and cross-sections generated in about a second.
- Ez3D-i implant tools include three-step implant simulation, top-down implant simulation, implant collision detection and 3D bone density analysis.

How dental teams use it
Open a Vatech CBCT disc you received
- Insert the CD/DVD or USB stick on a Windows PC; if autoplay does not start, browse the disc for the viewer program.
- Use the Original viewer if your PC has a suitable graphics card; otherwise use the Lite viewer, which needs at least an NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 class GPU but handles only simpler DICOM data.
- Scroll through the axial, coronal and sagittal slices and review any implants the sender placed.
Share a scan from Ez3D Plus
- Open the patient’s CT in Ez3D Plus.
- Use the CD/DVD burning or memory export option to create a disc or folder with the DICOM data and viewer.
- Send it to the colleague, or upload the viewer package to your practice FTP.
Plan the move off Ez3D Plus
- Check whether your X-ray unit and capture PC can run a supported Windows version.
- Ask your IT provider to back up the database and follow Vatech’s upgrade guides to the current EzSeries (EzServer, EzDent-i, Ez3D-i) or to Clever One.
- Keep the original capture PC and a clone of its disk until the new system is verified.
Install and first run
- Ez3D Plus: Vatech America still links the 1.2.6.23 updater for existing users, but states the product is no longer supported since Windows 7 reached end of life, and that licence keys are no longer available. Run the installer as administrator and choose “Workstation” for every PC except the capture PC (“Console”).
- Implant library updates for Ez3D Plus are installed separately after the program.
- Ez3D-i: installed as part of the EzSeries package together with EzServer (PostgreSQL database) and EzDent-i. Vatech asks for a certified IT consultant, a verified database backup and matching versions on server, capture PC and workstations.
- Windows 11 users of the Davis Toolkit need WMIC enabled; Vatech warns that sites below EzSeries 5.5.3 may lose functions after WMIC removal in Windows 11 updates.
- Mac, Terminal Services and type-2 virtual machines (Parallels, VMware Fusion) are not supported.
Limitations
- Ez3D Plus is end-of-life: no support, no new licence keys, and no Windows 11 support.
- No macOS version of Ez3D Plus, Ez3D-i or the Simple Viewer.
- The Simple Viewer needs a capable graphics card; older office PCs may only run the Lite viewer.
- No official trial download of Ez3D Plus is offered today.
- Vatech’s newest platform, Clever One, replaces EzDent-i and Ez3D-i for sites that adopt it, so Ez3D-i is itself on its way to becoming legacy.
Ez3D Plus vs alternatives
For CBCT reading and implant planning on data from any scanner, OnDemand3D is a common third-party choice. Other vendors ship their own 3D suites with free viewers for exported cases: CS Imaging puts CS 3D Imaging Lite on discs, and Sidexis 4 adds the Sidexis 4 Viewer. If a Vatech viewer will not start on your PC, ask the sender for a plain DICOM export and open it in a general viewer such as Sante DICOM Viewer or Mango.
